Chapter 1 - The Tactical Extraction

The linoleum floor of the examination room felt cold beneath Clara’s feet, but for the first time in two years, she did not feel small.
Colonel Viktor Adler did not waste a single second on useless questions or empty pity.
His eyes scanned the yellowing bruises on his daughter's collarbone, then shifted to Detective Inspector Hanna Keller with the cold intensity of a battlefield commander.
"We need a secure perimeter and a full medical document package before Julian Hartmann realizes his wife is missing," Viktor said, his voice deep and unwavering.
Detective Keller nodded, pulling a tablet from her leather attaché case to initiate an emergency protective order.
"The digital forensics team has already mirrored the video files from the three cloud servers Clara utilized," Keller replied.
"The evidence is encrypted, time-stamped, and legally admissible under the domestic felony abuse statutes."
Clara sat on the edge of the examination table, her hand resting over the gentle rise of her eight-month pregnant belly.
"He is at the charity gala at the St. Regis until midnight," Clara whispered, her voice finally steady.
"He always stays for the keynote speech because he likes to be seen shaking hands with the mayor."
Viktor gently draped his heavy, fleece-lined military jacket over Clara’s trembling shoulders, concealing the hospital vest.
"That gives us three hours to sweep the house, retrieve your legal documents, and vanish," her father said.
Dr. Miriam Weber handed a sealed manila envelope containing Clara's complete medical records to the detective.
"I have documented every physical trauma, every contusion, and the exact trajectory of the leather strap marks," Dr. Weber stated firmly.
"If Julian's lawyers try to claim she fell or suffered an accident, this medical report will dismantle them in five minutes."
Clara stood up, feeling the warmth of her father's large hand supporting her elbow.
For two years, Julian had convinced her that she was entirely alone in a gilded cage of his own creation.
Now, surrounded by a seasoned detective, a fearless doctor, and a veteran commander, the walls of that cage were finally breaking apart.
"Let's go home and get my mother's jewelry before he burns it," Clara said.

Viktor offered a grim, proud smile.
"Nobody is burning anything tonight, Clara. Tonight, we start building your fire."
