Chapter 9 - The Syndicate’s Justice

The heavy door swung open, revealing Mateo Santos standing in the threshold.
He was covered in blood, his expensive suit ruined, but his eyes were entirely focused on them.
Maya let out a choked sob of relief and carried the sleeping child out of the bunker.
The compound was a wreck of shattered glass, bullet holes, and absolute chaos.
"Is it over?" Maya asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Mateo nodded slowly, gently taking his daughter from Maya’s tired arms.
"Victor will never betray another soul in this lifetime," Mateo said coldly.
The remaining loyal guards were already securing the perimeter and cleaning up the violence.
Mateo looked at Maya, seeing the bruises on her arms and the sheer exhaustion in her eyes.
"You saved her," Mateo said, his voice breaking with genuine, unfiltered emotion.
"You saved both of us tonight, Maya."
He reached out his free hand, wrapping his strong fingers around hers.
Maya squeezed his hand back, finally allowing the adrenaline to leave her shaking body.
