Chapter 7 - Blood in the Hollywood Hills

Victor fired, the silenced weapon making a sickening, muted thwack in the quiet room.
Mateo moved with terrifying speed, diving to the side and pulling Maya to the floor.
The bullet shattered the computer monitor behind them in a spray of sparks and glass.
"The Navarros send their regards, Boss," Victor laughed, advancing slowly into the room.
"They promised me the entire West Coast territory once you and your bloodline were erased."
Mateo drew a hidden firearm from an ankle holster, returning fire from behind the mahogany desk.
Victor cursed and dove behind a leather sofa as bullets tore through the expensive furniture.
"Get to the panic room," Mateo ordered Maya, his eyes completely devoid of mercy.
"I am not leaving you," Maya yelled over the sound of shattering wood.
"Go get my daughter and lock the steel door," Mateo roared.
Maya crawled toward the secondary exit, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs.
She sprinted down the hallway, the sound of gunfire echoing through the massive estate.
Alarms began to blare, bathing the compound in spinning red emergency lights.
Maya reached the master suite just as two of Victor’s rogue guards were approaching the door.

She grabbed a heavy bronze vase from a side table and smashed it into the first guard's head.
She shoved the second guard backward, locking the heavy bedroom doors just in time.
