Chapter 6 - The Confession

In the interrogation rooms at the police precinct, the wealthy family’s loyalty crumbled faster than cheap glass.
Detectives separated my mother, father, Chloe, and Richard into four different rooms.
People who have never faced real consequences in their lives do not know how to hold a lie under pressure.
They instantly turned on each other to save themselves.
My father was the first to break.
Sweating profusely under the harsh fluorescent lights, he blamed the entire murder plot on my mother and Richard.
"It was Richard's idea!" my father sobbed, slamming his hands on the metal table.
"He was terrified that if Maya inherited the money, a court-mandated biological audit would expose his assault on my youngest daughter!"
"He said he would lose his job, his wife, and his freedom!"
In the next room, my mother was desperately trying to negotiate a plea deal.
She offered to pay the police department a million dollars if they let her go home.
When the detective laughed in her face, she tried to blame Chloe.
"Chloe crushed the pills!" my mother screamed, her perfectly styled hair now a tangled, frantic mess.
"Chloe was jealous of her sister!"
"Chloe wanted the trust fund for Sophie, so she mixed my medication into the child's milk!"
But the final nail in their coffin came from Chloe herself.
Chloe had always been arrogant, believing she was the smartest person in any room.
She thought she could outsmart the detectives by playing the victim of a manipulative husband.
"I didn't want to kill the brat," Chloe confessed on tape, completely unaware she was sealing her own doom.
"We just wanted to put her to sleep for a few hours, toss her in the bin, and pretend she was kidnapped!"
"By the time the police found her in a landfill, the grandfather's deadline would have passed, and Sophie would have the eighty million."
"It wasn't supposed to be murder, just a strategic relocation!"
The detective stared at Chloe with absolute disgust.
"You threw a drugged five-year-old child into a commercial dumpster in the middle of a summer heatwave," the detective stated flatly.
"That is premeditated murder, sweetheart."
With those three separate confessions recorded on tape, the District Attorney had a bulletproof case.
There would be no bail.

There would be no expensive lawyers buying their freedom.
They were going straight to maximum security.
