The scandal rocked the city. It had all the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster: a billionaire, a beautiful treacherous fiancée, a corporate coup, and a mother’s near-fatal fall. The press dubbed Victoria the "Black Widow of Wall Street."
Alexander leaned into the skid. Instead of hiding from the media, he went on a prime-time national interview.
"Mr. Reed," the anchor asked, leaning forward. "How does a man in your position get fooled by someone like Victoria Lane?"
Alexander looked directly into the camera. "When you build an empire, you surround yourself with armor. You look for enemies in the boardroom, in the stock market. You don't expect the enemy to be the person sleeping in your bed. I let my success blind me to what truly mattered—loyalty and family."
