Chapter 10 - Home

The mansion lobby was no longer silent. It was filled with the sounds of life. A fire crackled in the grand fireplace, and soft jazz played through the hidden speakers.
Evelyn sat in a plush armchair, a blanket draped over her lap, sipping hot tea. She watched as Alexander paced the floor, talking animatedly on his phone about a new charitable foundation he was launching in her name—a foundation dedicated to elder care and domestic abuse survivors.
He hung up the phone and walked over to her, crouching down so they were eye level.
"Are you warm enough?" he asked, tucking the blanket tighter around her knees.
Evelyn chuckled, patting his cheek. "I am perfectly fine, Alexander. You fuss over me too much."
"I haven't fussed enough," he corrected her, kissing her hand. "This house is yours, Mom. It always was. I just had to clear out the trash before you could properly move in."
Evelyn looked around the grand room. The shadow of Victoria was completely gone, washed away by the love and devotion of a son who had finally woken up.

"It's a beautiful home, Alex," she said softly. "But it’s only beautiful because you're in it."
Alexander smiled, the cold billionaire completely replaced by the man his mother had raised. "Welcome home, Mom."
