Chapter 7 - Gentle Hands

Lorenzo stumbled through the front doors of the estate just as the sun was beginning to rise.

His expensive suit was completely ruined, soaked in rain, mud, and dark red blood.

Pino trotted proudly beside him, his black fur completely untouched by the chaos.

Maria had been pacing the grand foyer all night, unable to sleep a single wink.

When she saw Lorenzo bleeding, she let out a cry and sprinted across the marble floor.

"You are hurt!" she panicked, wrapping her arms around his waist to keep him from falling.

"It is just a scratch, little bird," Lorenzo lied, offering her a weak, exhausted smile.

Maria did not listen to his tough words; she immediately called for the private estate doctor.

Within minutes, Lorenzo was sitting shirtless on his bed while the doctor stitched his torn shoulder.

Maria sat beside him the entire time, holding his uninjured hand tightly in both of hers.

When the doctor finally left, the bedroom was quiet, lit only by the soft morning light.

Lorenzo looked at Maria, noticing the deep, dark circles of worry under her beautiful eyes.

"You stayed up all night waiting for a monster to come home," he whispered softly.

Maria reached up and gently traced the line of his strong jaw with her fingertips.

"I stayed up waiting for the man who saved my daughter to come home," she corrected him.
