Chapter 11 - A Pact Sealed in Blood

The drive back to Manhattan was a blur of roaring engines, swirling white snow, and tactical preparations. Inside the cabin of the utility truck, Marcus and three of Julian’s most elite operatives were checking weapons, loading armor-piercing magazines, and mapping out the structural blueprints of Pier 42 on illuminated tactical monitors.

Clara sat in the center of the bench seat, staring blankly at the master encryption drive resting in the palm of her hand. Her hands were shaking so violently she could barely hold the small metal cylinder.

Julian reached over from the driver’s seat, placing his large, warm hand over hers, completely stilling her tremors with his steady, immovable strength.

“Look at me, Clara,” he commanded softly.

She lifted her eyes to his, searching his sharp, handsome features for any sign of doubt or fear, but found only pure, absolute resolve.

“Damian expects us to walk into that warehouse desperate, panicked, and ready to beg,” Julian said, his thumb gently rubbing across her knuckles. “He thinks he holds all the cards because he has Leo. But he forgot one critical detail about how I built this empire.”

“What detail?” she asked, her voice a fragile whisper above the rumble of the tires on the icy highway.

“I never enter a room without controlling the exits,” Julian said darkly. “The master encryption drive in your hand is real, but thirty minutes ago, while Marcus was prepping the truck, I had him upload a secondary, dormant logic bomb into the drive’s firmware.”

Clara’s analytical mind flickered back to life, grasping the tactical implications immediately. “A logic bomb? What kind of sequence?”

“The moment Damian plugs that drive into his terminal to decrypt the registry for the Chicago buyers, the virus will trigger,” Julian explained, his eyes glinting with predatory intelligence. “It won’t just erase the database. It will reverse-trace his connection, lock down his local servers, and broadcast his exact GPS coordinates to the FBI’s financial crimes division.”

“It’s a dead man’s switch,” she realized, a spark of hope igniting in her chest. “If he tries to double-cross us, he destroys himself.”

“Exactly,” Julian said, pulling the truck off the highway onto the deserted, industrial waterfront roads of Brooklyn. “You are going to walk into that warehouse with me by your side. You are going to look my brother in the eye, and you are going to hand him that drive. I will handle the rest.”

He leaned in close, pressing his forehead against hers for a brief, intimate second, ignoring the operatives checking their rifles around them.

“I swear to you on my life, Clara,” he whispered against her lips. “You and Leo are walking out of that harbor alive tonight. Whatever price needs to be paid, I will pay it.”
