Chapter 5 - THE DESPERATE ENABLERS
With Harrison locked away in a cell, my parents became completely unhinged.
They could not handle the reality that their perfect son was a violent criminal.
They showed up unannounced at Lily's elementary school, demanding to see her.
The school principal immediately called the police, and my parents were escorted off the property.
I quickly filed a permanent, ironclad restraining order against both of them.
But they were too desperate and too arrogant to respect the law.
One evening, I heard a loud, aggressive pounding on the front door of my apartment.
I looked through the peephole and saw my father standing in the hallway, looking completely disheveled.
I did not open the door.
Instead, I slid the deadbolt locked and called the police dispatcher.
"Claire, open this door right now!" my father shouted, pounding his fists against the wood.
"You have absolutely ruined this family's legacy!"
"Your mother is having a nervous breakdown because of your selfish lies!"
I leaned against the door, my heart pounding, but my voice remained perfectly steady.
"Harrison ruined his own life, Dad."
"And you ruined yours by choosing to protect a monster over your own injured granddaughter."
"You need to drop these ridiculous charges, or I will make sure you never see a single penny of your inheritance!" he screamed.
I actually laughed out loud at his pathetic threat.
"I don't want your dirty money," I replied calmly.
"I want my brother to rot in a cage where he belongs."
The police arrived five minutes later and arrested my father for violating the active restraining order.
