Chapter 11 - The Siege

The penthouse of the Sapphire Grand Hotel was awash in the glow of crystal chandeliers and the clinking of expensive scotch glasses. Julian Sterling stood at the head of a massive mahogany table, flanked by the leaders of three rival syndicates.
“Victor is a relic,” Julian announced smoothly, a charming, venomous smile on his face. “Tonight, we consolidate the ports, the supply lines, and the political bribes under new leadership.”
Before the rival bosses could raise their glasses, the heavy oak doors of the penthouse exploded inward.
Victor stepped through the smoke and splintered wood like a reaper ascending from hell. He was flanked by his elite enforcers, their assault rifles raised and perfectly steady.
“The only thing being consolidated tonight is your grave, Julian,” Victor’s voice boomed over the chaos, cold and absolute.
Gunfire erupted instantly. The penthouse turned into a war zone of shattered glass, screaming cartel bosses, and flying lead. Victor moved with terrifying precision, dropping two of Julian’s bodyguards with rapid, suppressed pistol fire. Marcus breached from the rear service elevator, catching the rival syndicates in a deadly crossfire.
But Julian didn't fight. He was a coward who always had a backup plan. As the bullets chewed the expensive furniture to pieces, Julian dove behind the bar, hitting a concealed emergency switch. A hidden panel in the wall slid open, revealing an executive escape chute designed for VIP extractions.
Julian scrambled inside, the panel slamming shut just as Victor’s bullets ripped into the wood where he had been standing a second prior.
“He’s in the walls!” Marcus shouted over the din of battle. “He’s heading for the basement!”

Victor’s heart stopped. The basement. The exact location where he had left Maya waiting in the extraction vehicle.
“Secure the penthouse! Execute the rivals!” Victor roared, sprinting toward the service stairs, entirely abandoning his cover. The calculated syndicate boss was gone, replaced by a desperate man terrified of losing the one light he had found in his dark world.
