Chapter 12 - Rising from the Ashes

Two weeks passed. The failed assassination attempt was the final nail in Isabella’s coffin. The captured hitman rolled on his employers to secure a plea deal, exposing the entire Vanguard syndicate. Isabella was denied bail, facing multiple life sentences for kidnapping, attempted murder, and massive corporate fraud.

Inside the Sterling estate, the atmosphere had completely changed. The hidden room behind the mirrors had been demolished, replaced by a beautiful, sunlit reading nook for Clara.

Clara’s physical recovery was slow but miraculous. Under the care of elite nutritionists and therapists, the color returned to her cheeks. Her hair regained its shine, and the haunting emptiness in her eyes was replaced by a fierce, undeniable strength.

One morning, Julian stood in the grand hall, reviewing legal documents. He heard footsteps on the stairs and looked up. His breath caught in his throat.

Clara was descending the staircase. She wasn't wearing a ragged apron or hospital scrubs. She wore a stunning emerald green dress, her head held high, diamonds glittering at her throat. She looked every bit the queen she was born to be.

"You look..." Julian couldn't find the words. He walked to the bottom of the stairs, taking her hand and kissing her knuckles. "You look perfect."

"I am done hiding, Julian," Clara said, her voice steady and confident. "Today is Isabella’s sentencing. And I want to be in that courtroom. I want her to look me in the eye."
