Chapter 11 - The Fight in the Dark

Julian didn't wait for the intruder to make a move. He fired two shots, the suppressed weapon coughing quietly in the dark. The assassin dodged with unnatural speed, returning fire. Bullets shattered the antique vases and ripped through the priceless paintings in the corridor.

Julian dove behind a heavy oak pillar as a bullet grazed his shoulder, tearing through his shirt and drawing blood. He ignored the burning pain. This wasn't about survival anymore; this was about protecting the woman he loved.

When the assassin stopped to reload, Julian lunged. He tackled the man to the ground, knocking the weapon from his hands. The two men engaged in a brutal, desperate hand-to-hand fight in the dark. The assassin pulled a combat knife, slashing wildly. Julian caught the man’s wrist, twisting it until he heard a sickening snap.

With a final, adrenaline-fueled punch, Julian knocked the intruder unconscious. He collapsed against the wall, breathing heavily, blood dripping from his shoulder.

Seconds later, backup security flooded the house, flashlights piercing the darkness. Marcus rushed to Julian’s side.

"Sir, are you hit?"

"I'm fine," Julian gasped, gesturing to the unconscious assassin. "Tie him up. Get his phone. Find out exactly who sent him."

Julian smiled grimly. Isabella had played her final card, and she had lost.
