Chapter 6 - The Walk of Shame

Fifteen minutes later, the grand foyer was completely silent. The entire household staff—from the chefs to the groundskeepers—had miraculously found reasons to be polishing the banisters or sweeping the marble floors near the entrance.
Eleanor descended the grand staircase, flanked by Marcus and another heavily built security guard. She carried two designer suitcases—the only things she had brought with her three months ago. Stripped of the lavish jewelry, the designer coats Arthur had purchased, and her arrogant pride, she looked remarkably small.
She kept her head down, her face flushed with deep, searing humiliation. She didn't look at Arthur, who stood stoically by the door with his hands in his pockets.

As she reached the bottom step, Clara happened to walk past, carrying a fresh tray of fruit for the girls. Eleanor paused, her lip curling into a silent snarl, but Marcus put a firm hand on her shoulder, propelling her toward the heavy oak doors.
The doors closed behind her with a heavy, satisfying click. The toxic air was sucked right out of the mansion, leaving room to finally breathe.
