Chapter 10 - The Warmth of Home

Six Months Later.

The summer sun bathed the back patio in a golden glow. Arthur sat in a comfortable lounge chair, wearing casual jeans and a t-shirt—a far cry from the stiff, armored suits he used to wear like a second skin.

He held a cold glass of lemonade, watching Sophie and Chloe run through the sprinklers on the pristine lawn. Their shrieks of pure, unadulterated joy carried on the warm breeze. There was no hesitation in their movements, no lingering fear in their eyes. They were completely, radiantly free.

Clara stepped out onto the patio, holding a tray of freshly baked cookies. She wore a bright sundress, her demeanor relaxed and happy.

"They're going to track mud all over the kitchen," Clara noted with a laugh, setting the tray down next to Arthur.

"Let them," Arthur smiled, leaning back and closing his eyes to feel the sun on his face. "We can always clean the floors. We can't buy back this kind of happiness."

Clara looked out at the girls, then down at Arthur. The house was no longer a cold, imposing fortress designed to impress the elite. It was messy. It was loud. It was filled with love, trust, and fierce loyalty.

Arthur opened his eyes, watching his daughters tackle each other into the soft grass. The nightmare was a distant memory. He had lost a fake fiancée, but he had found his family. And as the sun began to set over his beautiful, chaotic home, the wealthiest man in the state finally felt rich.
