Chapter 5 - The Trap Snaps Shut

Arthur didn’t flinch at her screaming. He simply pulled his phone from his pocket, tapped the screen, and placed it on the table next to the discarded ring.

The audio from the surveillance room began to play. Crystal clear. "I am utterly sick of repeating myself. When your father is oblivious in another country, you will follow my orders..."

Eleanor stared at the phone as if it were an explosive device.

"Every camera in this house records to a secure, encrypted cloud server," Arthur explained softly. "I have everything, Eleanor. The verbal abuse. The intimidation. And," he paused, his eyes narrowing, "the footage of you slipping your own diamond brooch into Clara’s coat pocket last Tuesday to frame her for theft."

Eleanor stumbled backward, hitting the edge of the sofa. She had no cards left to play. The bluff was called; the game was over.

"If I see your name in the press," Arthur warned, leaning in closer, "if you ever breathe a word about my family, I will release the footage. I will ensure every elite circle, every country club, and every wealthy bachelor in this city sees exactly what kind of parasite you are. Now. Get out."
