Chapter 2 - The Empty Cage

Ten minutes later, Marco stepped into the study.
The head of security was a massive man with a face scarred by decades of gang wars.
He held a specialized scanner in his thick hands.
“We swept the perimeter, Boss.”
“The signal from that bug was transmitting to a receiver less than two miles away.”
“But the receiver was abandoned.”
Aleandro’s eyes darkened into a dangerous shade of obsidian.
“Where is Isabella?”
Marco swallowed hard, a rare sign of hesitation from a hardened killer.
“That’s the problem, Boss.”
“Her security detail lost her.”
Aleandro stood up so fast that his heavy leather chair slammed into the bookshelf behind him.
“They lost her?”
“She went into a boutique on Fifth Avenue two hours ago.”
“The guards waited by the front entrance.”
“She never came out.”
“They checked the back alley, and her purse was lying on the pavement.”
Aleandro felt the air completely leave his lungs.
She hadn't run away.
She had been taken.
The puzzle pieces violently slammed together in his mind.
Isabella hadn't betrayed him out of greed or malice.
Someone had forced her to plant the bug, likely using a threat she couldn't ignore.
And when she was no longer useful to them, they had snatched her right off the street.
“Lock down the ports,” Aleandro commanded, his voice cold and lethal.
“Call every captain, every soldier, and every associate on our payroll.”

“Nobody moves cargo out of Brooklyn tonight.”
“I want the streets torn apart until we find who took my bride.”
