Chapter 4 - The Confession in the Dark

The medical wing was locked down tight, illuminated only by emergency red backup lights.

Julian slipped silently through the heavily reinforced doors, finding Victor standing guard with a lethal shotgun.

Elena was sitting up on a white hospital bed, clutching a terrified Leo tightly against her heavily bruised chest.

"Julian," she gasped softly, her voice still incredibly raspy from severe dehydration and freezing temperatures.

"You need to rest, Elena, we are currently handling a minor security issue," Julian lied gently, stepping closer to her bed.

She shook her head stubbornly, wincing in terrible pain as she forced herself to speak clearly.

"You need to know exactly what I heard Victoria and Silas planning before they ruthlessly locked me away."

Julian knelt beside the bed, his dark eyes fixed intensely on her brave, battered face.

"Victoria's powerful father heavily financed a massive shipment of illegal weapons for Silas behind your back," she whispered frantically.

"Silas plans to completely murder you tonight, marry Victoria next week, and easily absorb your entire empire."

Leo began to cry softly, burying his small face deep into the worn fabric of Julian’s expensive suit jacket.

Julian gently placed a reassuring hand on the brave little boy’s messy, dark hair.

"They severely underestimated one very important detail," Julian said, his voice terrifyingly calm.

"What is that?" Elena asked, tears finally spilling from her beautiful, exhausted eyes.

"They completely forgot whose house they are currently standing in," Julian replied, pulling a remote detonator from his pocket.

He had rigged the lower levels of his own mansion with highly explosive charges five years ago for exactly this impossible scenario.
