Chapter 12 - The Reckoning

I pulled out the executive chair at the head of the table—the chair Julian had arrogantly occupied barely fifteen minutes prior—and sat down, crossing my legs with calm, unshakeable authority. I gestured for Marcus to stand directly behind my right shoulder, where the gentle, rhythmic breathing of my newborn daughter served as a constant reminder of exactly why I was about to dismantle the man across from me.
“Let us review the current financial and legal accounting of your existence, Julian,” I said, nodding to Elena, who immediately distributed thick, bound legal dossiers to Mr. Henderson and the other banking trustees around the table.
“While you were drinking my scotch and celebrating my murder on my terrace last night,” I continued, my voice level and razor-sharp, “my forensic accounting team executed a comprehensive audit of your private investment firm, Vance Capital Holdings. We presented our findings to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Financial Crimes Task Force at two o'clock this morning.”
Julian’s head snapped up, his bloodshot eyes wide with panic. “The... the FBI?”
“Page four of your dossiers, gentlemen,” Elena spoke up, addressing the board. “Mr. Vance has spent the past fourteen months utilizing a network of shell companies—specifically Apex Commercial Services, registered to Chloe Mercer—to launder four point eight million dollars of Sterling Global maintenance funds directly into a private numbered account in Zurich, Switzerland.”
“That money is gone!” Julian yelled, a sudden, desperate surge of cornered defiance flaring up in his chest as he gripped the edge of the table. “You can't touch the Swiss accounts! Those banks operate under strict financial privacy laws! Even if you put me in jail, that ten million dollars is sitting in an encrypted vault that you can never access!”
I let out a soft, dismissive laugh, leaning back in my leather chair. “You really know nothing about international banking, Julian. Page six, Elena.”
Elena clicked her tablet, displaying an official international banking transfer receipt on the eighty-inch wall screen.
“At six o'clock this morning, when European markets opened,” I explained smoothly, looking directly into Julian’s horrified eyes, “my legal team presented the Swiss banking authorities with the certified wire fraud indictments, alongside proof that the funds deposited in your Zurich account were the direct proceeds of corporate embezzlement stolen from Sterling Global.”
I tapped my fingers against the mahogany wood. “Under international anti-money laundering treaties, the Swiss bank immediately froze your account, stripped your signatory access, and executed a full civil forfeiture repatriation. The entire balance—including the four point eight million you stole from my company and the five million you drained from your own defrauded investors—was wired back into the Sterling Global primary treasury account an hour ago.”
Julian’s jaw dropped completely open. The color drained from his lips, leaving them a sickly, bruised violet. “You... you took it all... you took every single cent...”

“I took back what was mine,” I corrected coldly. “Your investment firm has been formally placed into federal receivership as of eight o'clock today. Your commercial credit lines are terminated. Your personal bank accounts are sitting at an absolute zero balance, and your luxury sports cars were towed out of my garage by federal asset forfeiture agents while we were driving here this morning.”
I leaned forward, fixing him with a stare of absolute, crushing finality. “You don't own a company, Julian. You don't own a dollar. You don't own a home. You are completely, mathematically broke.”
