Chapter 7 - The Mother's Betrayal

With Julian’s assets frozen and his freedom hanging by a thread, he was forced to turn to the only person left: Beatrice.
Beatrice lived in a sprawling condo downtown, financed heavily by the "allowance" Julian gave her—money that actually belonged to my trust. When Julian showed up at her door, out on bail and desperate for legal funds, the true nature of their toxic bond revealed itself.
Evelyn had a private investigator keeping tabs on them, and she gleefully relayed the fallout to me.
"She turned him away, Clara," Evelyn laughed over the phone. "The moment Julian asked her to mortgage her condo to pay for his criminal defense attorney, Beatrice refused. She told him he was a fool for getting caught and that she needed to protect her 'retirement lifestyle'."

Julian, the golden boy who could do no wrong in his mother's eyes, was suddenly a liability. Beatrice, realizing the gravy train had derailed, immediately tried to distance herself from the scandal. She even called Evelyn’s office, attempting to throw Julian under the bus in exchange for a promise that I wouldn't sue her for the gifts she bought with my stolen money.
It was poetic justice. The woman who had encouraged him to abandon me in my most vulnerable moment had abandoned him the second he became inconvenient.
