Chapter 6 - The Deposition

The divorce deposition was a bloodbath.

Marcus sat across a long conference table, flanked by a cheap public defender. Sarah sat perfectly straight, wearing a sharp gray suit, radiating untouchable power.

Sterling didn't ask about the infidelity. He went straight for the jugular.

"Mr. Kensington, isn't it true you committed wire fraud to secure housing for your mistress?" Sterling asked.

"I... it was a loan," Marcus stammered.

"A loan from your dead son's college fund?" Sterling snapped.

Marcus recoiled as if physically struck.

Sterling then pulled out the handwritten affidavit Marcus had signed at the coffee shop. "You admit here that you knowingly provided false triage information to emergency medical staff, delaying critical care for a seizing child. Are you aware that under Washington State Law, intentionally interfering with the emergency medical care of a minor is a Class B felony?"

Marcus’s lawyer went pale. "Don't answer that," he hissed.

"You don't need to answer," Sterling smiled coldly. "Because we aren't just filing this in family court. I handed this affidavit to the District Attorney three hours ago."

Marcus looked at Sarah, absolute terror in his eyes. "Sarah, you promised! You said it was just for closure!"

"It is," Sarah said, her voice echoing in the silent room. "My closure is watching you rot."
