Chapter 10 - The Rebirth

Three years later.
The Seattle skyline glittered in the crisp evening air. Sarah stood on the balcony of a beautiful new apartment overlooking the water. She was holding a glass of wine, the heavy, suffocating weight of grief finally replaced by a quiet, enduring peace.
She had sold the old house, unable to bear the memories. She had taken the massive civil settlement she won from the divorce and the fraud case and poured it into something that mattered.
The Leo Kensington Foundation.
It was a nonprofit dedicated to funding emergency pediatric care and advanced triage training in low-income hospitals across the Pacific Northwest. In just three years, the foundation had saved the lives of dozens of children who might have otherwise slipped through the cracks.
Her phone buzzed. It was Dr. Miriam Vance. They had become close friends over the years, bonded by the tragedy of that awful night.
Just saw the new wing at Mercy General, the text read. The plaque is beautiful. He would be so proud of you.
Sarah smiled, a genuine, warm smile. She walked back inside, looking at a framed photo of Leo on her mantel. He was smiling, his face covered in chocolate from a birthday cake.
She touched the glass gently.

Sarah picked up her coat and walked out the door, ready to live the life she had fought so hard to reclaim.
