Chapter 9 - The Trial

The courtroom was packed with reporters and onlookers.
I wore a sharp navy suit, refusing to let David see me sweat.
When my name was called, I walked confidently to the witness stand.
David approached the podium, his arrogant smirk still firmly in place.
"Isn't it true, Rachel, that you orchestrated this entire conspiracy out of jealousy?" he asked loudly.
"I object," the prosecutor interrupted immediately.
"Overruled," the judge sighed. "Let the witness answer."
I leaned into the microphone, my voice steady and clear.
"I orchestrated nothing, David," I replied.
"You tried to kidnap my children and steal another woman's baby."
"You destroyed my parents' lives because you are an empty, pathetic narcissist."
The courtroom erupted into whispers.
David’s face turned bright red with fury.
He lost his temper, slamming his fists onto the wooden podium.
"They are my children!" he screamed, dropping his charming facade entirely.
"I own them, and I own you!"
The judge banged his gavel repeatedly.
"Bailiff, restrain the defendant!" the judge ordered.
David had just shown the jury exactly who he was.

He had convicted himself in less than five minutes.
The jury deliberated for less than two hours before returning a guilty verdict on all counts.
