Chapter 9 - The Sentencing
Judge Harrison banged his gavel, looking down at Brandon with absolute disgust.
“Brandon Vale, your actions display a level of malice and cowardice that this court rarely sees. You abused a position of trust, tortured your spouse, and then attempted to have her murdered to cover your financial crimes.”
The judge looked at his papers.
“I sentence you to forty-five years in federal prison, without the possibility of parole. Judith Vale, for your role in facilitating this abuse and kidnapping, I sentence you to fifteen years.”

The bailiffs hauled Brandon to his feet. He looked back at the gallery, making eye contact with Martin.
Martin didn't gloat. He didn't smile. He just gave a slow, final nod of his head as the heavy oak doors of the courtroom swallowed Brandon Vale forever.
