Chapter 7 - The Interrogation

Brandon was sitting in a cheap motel room, drinking warm whiskey, waiting for a text confirming the job was done.
Instead, the flimsy wooden door of the motel room was kicked off its hinges.
Before Brandon could react, FBI agents flooded the room, tackling him to the stained carpet. “Brandon Vale, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, wire fraud, and aggravated assault!”
Brandon was dragged out in his undershirt, his neighbors watching from their doors.
In the interrogation room, Brandon sat handcuffed to the steel table. The door opened, but it wasn't a detective who walked in. With special permission from the DA, Martin Sterling stepped into the room, pulling out the metal chair and sitting across from the man who had tortured his daughter.
“You can’t be in here!” Brandon yelled, his voice cracking with fear.
“I can be wherever I want, Brandon,” Martin said softly. “I just wanted to look at you one last time. I wanted to see what a coward looks like when the walls close in.”
“I’ll beat this! My mother has friends—”

“Your mother is currently indicted as a co-conspirator for aiding and abetting a kidnapping,” Martin interrupted. “She is sharing a cell with three women who do not care about her silk robes. It’s over, Brandon. You are going to a federal penitentiary. And every day you spend in that cage, I want you to remember that you put yourself there the second you laid a hand on my daughter.”
Martin stood up and walked out, leaving Brandon to scream into the empty room.
