Chapter 6 - The Breach

At 2:00 AM on a Tuesday, the power to the top three floors of the Sterling building was entirely cut.
Three men dressed in black tactical gear bypassed the service elevator, using climbing rigs to scale the empty maintenance shafts. Brandon’s hitmen were professionals, equipped with silenced weapons and night vision.
They pried open the heavy steel doors leading to the penthouse corridor.
“Target is in the master suite,” the lead thug whispered into his radio.
They moved silently across the thick carpeting, kicking open the door to Emily’s bedroom. They raised their weapons, ready to fire at the bed.
But the bed was empty.
Suddenly, the blinding glare of high-intensity tactical floodlights snapped on from all four corners of the room. The hitmen froze, blinded and disoriented.
Martin’s head of security, Vance, stepped out of the shadows along with four heavily armed private security contractors.
“Drop them,” Vance commanded, racking the slide of his shotgun.
The three hitmen immediately dropped their weapons, falling to their knees. Martin walked into the room, his face an emotionless mask. He looked down at the lead thug.
“Who sent you?” Martin asked.
May you like
“Brandon Vale,” the thug stammered, terrified. “He paid us fifty grand in cash.”
Martin pulled a small digital recorder from his pocket and clicked it off. “Call the police, Vance. We just added conspiracy to commit murder to his charges.”
