Chapter 9 - The Viral Explosion

By the time I left the campus police station after giving my official statement, my phone was melting down.
I sat on a wooden bench outside the precinct, scrolling through the notifications.
It had only been three hours.
But the internet works at lightning speed.
Multiple angles of my stage speech had been uploaded to Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.
The hashtags #SterlingFraud and #JusticeForSarah were already trending globally.
People were analyzing the projected documents frame by frame.
Financial experts were chiming in on Twitter, confirming that the offshore accounts were highly illegal.
Lawyers on TikTok were breaking down the potential prison sentences for my father and brother.
My mother's dramatic, fake sobbing was being turned into a meme.
My phone rang.
It was an unknown number, but I answered it anyway.
"Is this Sarah Sterling?" a crisp voice asked.
"Yes, it is."
"My name is David Kensington."
"I'm a senior partner at Kensington & Vance, one of the top corporate law firms in the city."
"I saw the video of your graduation."
"I want to represent you pro bono."
I blinked in surprise.
"Pro bono? Why?"
"Because your father destroyed countless lives, and the evidence you gathered is a prosecutor's dream."
"Plus, suing his estate to recover your stolen trust fund will be highly publicized."
"We want to make sure you get every single penny back."
I smiled, looking up at the evening sky.
"Mr. Kensington, you have yourself a client."

I hung up the phone.
The real battle was just beginning, but I finally had an army behind me.
