Chapter 9 - The Begging Husband

The fallout from the courtroom revelation was immediate, chaotic, and entirely satisfying.

The media, who had spent weeks tearing me apart, suddenly changed their tune, painting me as a heroic, wronged mother.

Julian showed up at the hospital later that evening, holding a massive bouquet of extremely expensive white roses.

His eyes were completely red and swollen, indicating he had been crying heavily since the judge dismissed the hearing.

He stood awkwardly in the doorway of my recovery room, looking like a shattered, pathetic shadow of the powerful heir I had married.

He begged for my forgiveness, his voice trembling as he swore he had been brainwashed and manipulated by his deeply toxic mother.

He promised to buy us a new mansion, to cut Eleanor out of his life completely, and to spend the rest of his days making it up to me.

I listened to his desperate, pathetic pleas in complete silence, my face a mask of absolute, unbreakable stone.

When he finally ran out of breath, I calmly pointed to the trash can in the corner of the room.

I told him to throw his expensive roses away, because I had absolutely no use for dead, empty gestures.

I explained to him, in a voice completely void of emotion, that the betrayal was not just about the forged photographs.

The true, unforgivable betrayal was that he had looked into my eyes, after years of our shared struggle to have a child, and chose to believe the absolute worst about me.

He had prioritized his pride and his mother's whispers over my life and the life of his unborn daughter.

Julian fell to his knees beside my hospital bed, weeping openly and clutching the edge of my blanket in sheer desperation.

I did not reach out to comfort him; I did not offer him a single shred of absolution.

I told him that he was legally recognized as the father, and he would absolutely pay his mandatory child support.

But as a husband, and as a man I could ever trust again, he was entirely and permanently dead to me.

I pressed the call button for the nurse and politely requested that security remove the trembling billionaire from my room.

Julian was escorted out by two large security guards, his shoulders shaking as he finally realized he had lost me forever.

I turned my attention back to the rhythmic beeping of Lily’s heart monitor, feeling completely at peace with my decision.
