Chapter 17 - The Final Echoes of the Past

Three years had completely flown by since the dramatic, highly publicized collapse of the entire Kensington real estate empire.

I was sitting in my sunlit office at the clinic, reviewing the massive, highly successful budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

The clinic had expanded rapidly, now employing dozens of brilliant doctors and incredibly dedicated nurses to serve the community.

My peaceful morning was briefly interrupted when Marcus walked into my office holding a crisp, highly official legal document.

He informed me that Julian Kensington had officially been released from federal prison on early parole due to completely overcrowding issues.

A brief, cold shadow of the past momentarily washed over me, but it was quickly replaced by a massive shield of absolute indifference.

Marcus explained that Julian had filed a pathetic, incredibly weak petition in family court, begging for heavily supervised visitation rights with Lily.

He was desperately trying to cling to the last remaining, untainted piece of his completely destroyed legacy.

I did not panic, and I did not cry; I simply looked at Marcus and asked him exactly how fast we could completely crush the petition.

Marcus smiled that familiar, dangerous, shark-like grin and promised me it would be thrown out before the end of the week.

We attended the brief, highly informal hearing via a secure video call, completely refusing to breathe the same air as that monster.

Julian looked incredibly aged, heavily worn down by his time in federal prison, completely devoid of his former arrogant, billionaire glow.

He pleaded with the judge, crying pathetic tears, heavily playing the victim of his mother’s completely toxic manipulation.

The judge, completely unimpressed by his theatrical performance, read aloud the massive, detailed history of his severe emotional abuse and criminal fraud.

She firmly, absolutely denied his petition, permanently terminating any remaining, microscopic legal rights he had to my beautiful daughter.

She explicitly ordered him to never contact us again, heavily threatening him with immediate jail time if he ever violated the strict restraining order.

Julian stared at the camera screen, completely defeated, finally realizing that his actions had permanent, entirely unbreakable consequences.

I reached over and completely severed the video connection, permanently cutting the final, rotting thread that tied me to the Kensington family.

The ghosts of my past were officially, permanently exorcised from my beautiful life.
