Chapter 5 - Uncovering the Motive

Marcus and his private investigator, Silas, spent three sleepless nights analyzing the footage from Liam’s office and the malware on my phone.
Silas easily identified the man in the suit as a high-end corporate fixer who exclusively handled dirty work for Boston's wealthiest families.
Furthermore, Silas managed to trace the offshore shell company that had wired the payment to the hacker who doctored the photographs.
The shell company was registered in the Cayman Islands, but its primary managing director was listed as Eleanor Kensington.
We had the smoking gun, the undeniable proof of her illegal, deeply malicious conspiracy against me.
But Marcus was not satisfied; he paced around his cramped office, running a hand through his messy hair in frustration.
He pointed out that Eleanor’s actions were far too extreme, too rushed, and far too sloppy for a woman of her calculating nature.
She had risked multiple federal felonies just to break up my marriage, which meant she was operating on a strict, desperate timeline.
Marcus ordered Silas to dig blindly into the Kensington family trust funds, specifically focusing on the will left by Julian’s late grandfather.
The grandfather had been the brilliant, ruthless patriarch who built the real estate empire from the ground up.
When Silas finally returned with a leaked copy of the confidential will, the entire, horrifying puzzle clicked perfectly into place.
According to the ironclad legal document, Julian would only inherit the final, largest portion of the multi-billion-dollar empire upon the birth of his first legitimate child.
If Julian did not produce an heir by his thirty-fifth birthday, the entire remaining fortune would be donated to various charitable organizations.
Julian’s thirty-fifth birthday was exactly two months away.
However, the will contained a secret, deeply buried stipulation that stated the child must be born to a mother of "unquestionable moral standing."
If the mother of the heir was proven to be unfaithful or involved in a scandal, the trust would bypass Julian entirely.
Eleanor was not trying to protect her son; she was trying to legally disqualify my unborn daughter from inheriting the empire.
She wanted to retain absolute control over the family’s wealth, and she knew Julian would cut her out of the business once he received his full inheritance.

She was willing to destroy her own grandchild’s future just to keep her greedy hands on the family’s billions.
I stared at the highlighted legal documents, feeling absolutely disgusted by the sheer depth of her maternal betrayal.
