Chapter 4 - Reaching into the Past

I knew that to completely dismantle Eleanor’s fabricated narrative, I needed to track down the other victim of her vicious lie.

Liam, my ex-fiancé, was an architect who lived a quiet, private life completely removed from the toxic drama of Boston's elite.

I sat in Sarah’s car outside Liam’s small architectural firm, my heart pounding nervously against my ribs.

I had not spoken to him since we amicably ended our engagement five years ago, realizing we were better off as friends.

When he walked out of the building, holding a blueprint tube, he looked exhausted and deeply troubled.

I rolled down the window and called his name, watching his eyes widen in absolute shock as he recognized my face.

He quickly slid into the passenger seat, looking over his shoulder as if he expected someone to be watching us.

Liam immediately apologized, his voice shaking as he confessed that a mysterious man in a tailored suit had visited him last week.

The man had handed Liam a briefcase containing one hundred thousand dollars in untraceable cash.

The only condition for the massive payout was that Liam had to completely ignore any calls from me or the press regarding the Kensington scandal.

Eleanor had effectively bought his silence, ensuring that I would have no alibi and no one to corroborate my innocence.

But Liam had always been a deeply moral man, raised by parents who valued truth over easy money.

He reached into his thick winter coat and pulled out a small, black USB flash drive, placing it gently into my trembling hands.

He explained that he had secretly recorded the entire interaction with the intimidating man in the suit using a hidden security camera in his office.

The video captured the man’s face perfectly, and more importantly, it captured the man explicitly mentioning Eleanor Kensington’s name as his employer.

I threw my arms around Liam, sobbing in pure gratitude as he held me tightly, careful of my pregnant belly.

He told me to take the Kensington family down, not just for my sake, but for the daughter I was fighting to protect.

I promised him that I would not rest until Eleanor was publicly exposed for the monster she truly was.

With this flash drive, Marcus now had the physical leverage needed to crack Eleanor’s impenetrable armor.

The hunter was finally about to become the hunted.
