Chapter 10 - Seizing the Asset Empire

With my family remanded to federal prison without bail, the Department of Justice’s Asset Forfeiture Division moved with devastating speed to dismantle their financial structure. Armed with federal seizure orders signed by Judge Vance, forensic accountants and federal marshals descended upon the Sterling properties, bank accounts, and luxury investments.
I met Special Agent Vance at the entrance of my parents' primary residence—a sprawling mansion located in the most exclusive gated community in the city, funded entirely by my grandfather’s diverted investments and fraudulent loans.
"Good morning, Commander," Agent Vance said, handing me an inventory tablet. "We have frozen twenty-four bank accounts across three countries, totaling over four point two million dollars in liquid assets. The cryptocurrency wallets recovered from your brother’s laptop have also been transferred to secure government vaults pending restitution orders."
"What about their physical assets?" I asked, walking through the grand foyer where classic oil paintings and crystal chandeliers hung.
"All luxury vehicles have been impounded by the US Marshals," Vance confirmed, tapping his screen to show photos of my father’s Porsche and my mother’s Mercedes being loaded onto flatbed tow trucks. "We are also seizing all jewelry, designer wardrobe items purchased within the last thirty-six months, and the title deeds to two vacation condominiums in Florida. Everything they bought with Arthur’s stolen money is being liquidated to fund his recovery trust."
I walked into my mother’s lavishly decorated walk-in closet, where hundreds of pairs of designer shoes and haute couture dresses hung in pristine order. While my grandfather had been shivering on a damp mattress without clean water, Beatrice had been hosting champagne trunk shows in this room.

"Strip it bare," I instructed the seizure team leaders standing in the doorway. "Every watch, every diamond, every piece of art. Take it all down to the auction block. I want this family left with nothing but the clothes on their backs when they face the jury."
By nightfall, the mansion was completely stripped of its luxury trappings, the doors secured with heavy federal warning tape and padlocks—a fitting irony for the people who had used a padlock to imprison their own blood.
