Chapter 16 - The Cross-Examination

The brutal cross-examination began immediately after a short recess, and Liam’s highly aggressive defense attorney completely lived up to his terrifying, ruthless reputation.
He aggressively paced back and forth in front of the witness stand, completely shouting highly aggressive questions designed entirely to violently fluster and confuse me.
"Isn't it absolutely true that you have a documented history of severe anxiety, and you frequently imagined conflicts that never actually happened?" he demanded loudly.
"I had anxiety entirely because my husband was brutally, violently beating me in the complete privacy of our home," I fired back incredibly calmly.
He completely scoffed loudly, aggressively waving a copy of my sudden resignation letter from the pediatric hospital directly in front of the jury box.
"You abruptly abandoned your job, your parents, and your husband without a single warning because you had a severe, completely unhinged psychotic break, correct?"
"I ran for my absolute life because I found the massive insurance documents and knew he was completely planning to violently murder me," I repeated firmly.
The defense attorney aggressively smiled, completely thinking he had successfully backed me into an incredibly tight, entirely inescapable legal corner.
"You claim you found these magical insurance documents, yet you conveniently left them behind, offering absolutely no proof they ever existed," he sneered arrogantly.
It was the exact, highly specific moment the federal prosecutor and I had been incredibly eagerly waiting for during this entire grueling, exhausting trial.
The prosecutor immediately stood up and formally entered the massive, highly encrypted digital photographs from my secret burner phone directly into official evidence.
The massive screens in the courtroom instantly lit up, clearly displaying the highly detailed insurance documents resting exactly inside Liam's recognizable mahogany desk drawer.

The arrogant smirk on the defense attorney's face instantly vanished, completely replaced by an incredibly pale, highly terrified look of absolute, undeniable defeat.
Liam violently slammed his heavy fist directly onto the defense table, completely losing his carefully constructed, incredibly fake composure in front of the shocked jury.
