Chapter 6 - A Desperate and Foolish Ploy

The next morning, I woke up to a frantic knock on my office door.
Marcus walked in holding a legal document with a grim expression on his face.
My parents had actually tried to counterattack.
They had hired a sleazy lawyer to file an emergency petition for conservatorship.
They were claiming I was mentally unstable and incapable of managing my own assets.
They wanted total legal control over my company, my money, and my life.
I stared at the document, a mixture of rage and amusement bubbling inside me.
They were using the same tactic they had used on my late grandmother.
They thought they could lock me in a psychiatric hold and steal everything I built.
Marcus told me not to worry; the petition was entirely baseless.
We immediately requested an emergency hearing before a judge.
I arrived at the courthouse wearing a sharp, custom-tailored power suit.
My parents were there, looking disheveled and incredibly nervous.
They had brought Leo, who looked like he hadn't slept in three days.
The judge looked over their poorly drafted petition with obvious disdain.
Marcus then presented my psychological evaluation, which proved I was in perfect mental health.
He also presented the evidence of their ongoing IRS investigation.
The judge was absolutely furious with my parents for wasting the court's time.
He threw the petition out immediately and slapped them with massive legal sanctions.
He also granted my request for a permanent restraining order against all three of them.
My mother burst into tears, realizing her final desperate play had failed spectacularly.
I walked past them in the hallway without breaking my stride.

I didn't even give them the satisfaction of a backward glance.
They were nothing to me now.
