Chapter 4 - The Golden Boy’s Dark Secret

I hired a high-end private investigator named Vance to look into Leo.

If my parents were running a massive fraud scheme, there was no way Leo was innocent.

Vance was a former intelligence officer who knew how to dig up buried skeletons.

Within forty-eight hours, Vance sent me an encrypted email with a massive payload.

Leo wasn't just the golden boy who wanted a free penthouse.

He was in debt to a syndicate of underground sports bookies.

My perfect brother had a crippling gambling addiction.

He owed nearly two million dollars to people who broke legs for a living.

That was the real reason they were so desperate to get my property.

They wanted to leverage the equity in my penthouse to pay off Leo's dangerous debts.

I looked at the photos Vance had taken of Leo meeting with some very shady individuals.

My parents were willing to sacrifice my freedom and my home to save their precious son.

They were actively throwing me to the wolves.

Suddenly, my mother's desperation at the wedding made perfect sense.

Her slap wasn't just born of anger; it was born of sheer, unadulterated panic.

I printed out the photos and added them to the growing file on my desk.

I decided it was time to let my new sister-in-law, Sarah, in on the secret.

I wondered if she knew she had married into a family of broke, desperate criminals.

I drafted a carefully worded anonymous email.

I attached a few heavily redacted documents showing Leo's massive gambling debts.

I sent it directly to Sarah's personal email account.

It was time to plant a bomb inside their perfect little marriage.

I sat back and waited for the explosion.
