Chapter 11 - The Feds Move In

With my mother in jail and my father drowning in legal fees, the family home went into foreclosure.

They had taken out multiple hidden mortgages to keep up their wealthy facade.

The bank seized the sprawling suburban mansion without any hesitation.

My father was forced to pack up whatever fit into his old sedan and leave.

He ended up renting a cheap, run-down motel room on the edge of the city.

It was a staggering fall from grace for a man who used to mock the working class.

Meanwhile, the IRS concluded their initial investigation into the fake charity.

The evidence was so overwhelming that they handed the case over to the Department of Justice.

Federal agents formally indicted both of my parents for wire fraud and tax evasion.

The news broke on every major financial network in the country.

Their faces were plastered across television screens with the word "FRAUD" in bold letters.

I received a call from Leo while I was in the middle of a board meeting.

He used a burner phone to get past my strict block list.

His voice was weak, slurred from the painkillers they gave him at the hospital.

"Victoria, please," he whimpered. "I have nowhere to go. Dad can't afford a place."

I stepped out of the boardroom and looked at the spectacular view of the Chicago skyline.

"You have always been supposed to have everything, Leo," I said coldly. "Enjoy it."

I hung up the phone and tossed the burner number to my security team to block.

I walked back into my meeting and closed a massive software deal.

Success was truly the absolute best revenge.
