Chapter 17 - The Judgment

Judge Harrison adjusted his glasses, looking down at Arthur with an expression of profound disgust.
"Mr. Sterling," the judge said, his voice deep and authoritative. "In my twenty years on the federal bench, I have seen many white-collar criminals, and I have seen many violent predators. Rarely do I encounter an individual who combines the arrogant greed of a fraudster with the cowardly, calculated cruelty of a domestic abuser to such a disturbing degree."
Arthur stood silent, staring at the floor, his shoulders trembling slightly.
"You utilized your wealth and community standing as a shield to terrorize a vulnerable woman," Judge Harrison continued. "When your victim had the courage to seek lawful dissolution of the marriage, you escalated to explicit death threats, illegal weapons possession, and an outrageous attempt to corrupt the federal justice system by hiring mercenaries to intimidate witnesses. Your disregard for the law and human dignity is absolute."

The judge slammed his hand flat on the desk. "It is the sentence of this court that you, Arthur Sterling, be committed to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons for a term of thirty years, without the possibility of parole. You are further ordered to pay full financial restitution in the amount of six point two million dollars to your financial victims, beginning with the complete restoration of Clara Sterling’s estate. Remand the prisoner."
The Marshals stepped forward, securing the heavy iron chains around Arthur’s waist and wrists. As they led him out of the side door toward the transport vans, he didn't look back. He was just a number now, destined for a concrete cell where his arrogance counted for nothing.
