Chapter 8 - The Ransom

Marcus's heart stopped. The victory turned to ash in his mouth. "If you hurt him, Tom, I will peel the skin from your bones."
"One hour," Miller replied, and the line went dead.
Marcus slammed his fist into the dashboard, shattering the plastic. "He has Leo."
Huck’s jaw tightened. "We're not going to let him die, Marcus. But if we walk in there with this bag, he'll kill both of you."
"I don't care about the money! I don't care about the evidence!" Marcus roared. "I only care about my son!"
"I know," Huck said, his voice deadly calm. "Which is why we're going to give them exactly what they want. But we’re going to bring hell with us."

They stopped at a secluded gas station. Using Huck's encrypted laptop, Marcus set up a dead-man’s switch. He uploaded the drone footage, the cartel ledgers, and the offshore account data to a secure cloud server, programmed to automatically mass-email the FBI, the DEA, and every major news outlet in the state at exactly 6:00 AM.
Then, Marcus packed his tactical vest with every spare magazine he had. He wasn't walking in as a cop tonight. He was walking in as a father.
