Chapter 7 - The Rats Turn

There is no loyalty among thieves.
The next morning, the paranoia set in. Marcus believed Cynthia had double-crossed him and moved the money herself. Cynthia believed Marcus was setting her up to take the fall.
We sent the anonymous tip to the FBI at 9:00 AM.
We included the hard drive, the recorded conversations, and the forged signatures. We also included the fake breadcrumb trail showing Marcus draining the Cayman accounts.
At noon, Marcus Thorne walked into the FBI field office in Los Angeles, desperate to cut a deal. He threw Cynthia under the bus, claiming she was the mastermind of the entire embezzlement scheme and that he was just a pawn.
Thirty minutes later, Cynthia’s lawyers called the DOJ. She offered to testify against Marcus, claiming he physically threatened her into laundering the funds.
They were destroying each other, doing my work for me.
