Chapter 10 - The Foundation Rebuilt

One Year Later.
The grand opening of the Sterling-Flores Tower was the event of the year in Los Angeles.
The sleek, ninety-story glass skyscraper stood as a monument to resilience. The media had painted my return as the greatest comeback in corporate history. The stolen funds had been legally repatriated to me, and my empire was stronger than ever.
But I had changed.
I stood on the rooftop terrace, looking out over the glittering city lights. I wasn't the man I was a year ago. I no longer cared about the politicians seeking my endorsement or the celebrities faking laughter at my jokes.
I heard footsteps behind me.
Elena walked onto the terrace. She wasn't wearing a faded gray uniform. She was wearing a stunning, custom-tailored executive suit.
She wasn't my housekeeper anymore. She was my equal partner. Chief Financial Officer of Sterling-Flores Enterprises.
"The press is asking for a statement downstairs," Elena said, handing me a glass of champagne.
"Let them wait," I smiled, clinking my glass against hers. "I prefer the company up here."
Elena looked out at the city, a quiet pride in her eyes. "We built something beautiful from the ruins, Richard."
May you like
"You built it, Elena," I corrected her gently. "I just provided the steel. You provided the vision."
When a building collapses, someone has to sift through the rubble. But if you dig deep enough, past the lies, past the betrayal, and past the pain, you just might find the exact foundation you need to build a fortress that can never be torn down again.
