Chapter 1 - The Ghost Unit

David Thorne did not need to raise an army to destroy a town; he only needed a ghost unit.
Within forty-eight hours of General Croft’s authorization, six men arrived in Roanoke, Virginia. They didn't wear uniforms, and they didn't carry standard-issue assault rifles. They carried encrypted laptops, signal jammers, and the cold, terrifying precision of U.S. military intelligence. They were cyber-warfare specialists, forensic accountants, and logistical operators who had spent the last decade dismantling terrorist financing networks in the Middle East.
David briefed them in a sterile motel room covered in printed blueprints of the Blackwood coal mines and financial ledgers.
"We are not assassins," David told his men, his voice a low, gravelly rumble. "If we put a bullet in Caleb and Wyatt, they become martyrs to this corrupt valley. If we physically assault Harrison, we go to federal prison. We are going to do to the Blackwoods what they did to my daughter. We are going to shatter their foundation, break their defenses, and leave them completely paralyzed before the real authorities arrive."
Their first target wasn't the mansion. It was the valley's infrastructure.

At 2:00 AM on a Tuesday, the Blackwood Ridge Credit servers went completely dark. Every digital record of every predatory mortgage the Blackwoods held over the townspeople was frozen, encrypted, and siphoned into a secure server by David’s cyber team.
When Harrison Blackwood woke up the next morning, his bank couldn't process a single transaction. He was bleeding money, and he had no idea the tourniquet had just been applied to his throat.
