Chapter 8 - The Ambush

Julian’s armored convoy moved swiftly through the downtown financial district. He was returning from a meeting with the city's mayor—a man firmly in Julian's pocket—when the attack happened.
Without warning, a garbage truck pulled out of a side alley, slamming into the lead SUV. The crash was deafening. Before Julian’s driver could reverse, two black vans boxed them in from the rear.
"Ambush!" Silvio yelled, drawing his weapon.
Gunfire erupted, shattering the bulletproof glass of the town car. The Iron Skulls had brought automatic weapons. Julian didn't panic. He drew his customized sidearm, his mind working with tactical precision.
"Hold the line!" Julian roared over the radio. "Do not let them flank the vehicle!"
He kicked his door open, using the armored plating as a shield, and returned fire. He dropped two men instantly. But Ramon had planned this well. A sniper from a nearby fire escape took a shot. The bullet clipped Julian’s shoulder, tearing through his suit jacket and grazing his flesh.
Julian grunted, diving back into the car. Silvio laid down suppressing fire while the backup vehicles arrived, forcing the Iron Skulls to scatter like rats.

"Boss, you're hit," Silvio said, eyeing the blood seeping through Julian’s sleeve.
"It's a scratch," Julian growled, ripping his tie off to bind the wound. "Get us back to the estate. Ramon has crossed the line. Tonight, we take off the gloves."
