Chapter 14 - The Breach

At the estate, Clara jolted awake. The silent alarms on her bedside monitor were flashing red. The perimeter had been breached.
She threw off the covers and sprinted down the hall to Lily’s room. The little girl was sitting up, rubbing her eyes. "Mommy? What’s the red light?"
"We're playing a hiding game, baby," Clara lied, her voice trembling. "Come with me. Quickly."
Clara grabbed Lily and ran toward the panic room Julian had shown her on their first day. But as they reached the end of the corridor, Marco stepped out from the shadows, a suppressed pistol in his hand.
"Going somewhere, Clara?" Marco sneered.
"Marco?" Clara stepped in front of Lily, shielding her. "What are you doing? Where are the other guards?"
"Dead," Marco said coldly. "Vargas lost his edge. He put the whole syndicate at risk over a civilian and a brat. Ramon promised me control of the North Side if I handed you over."
"Ramon is dead," a voice boomed from the grand staircase.

Marco spun around. Julian was standing there, his suit covered in soot, his eyes blazing with a demonic fury. He moved with terrifying speed, closing the distance before Marco could aim.
Julian grabbed Marco’s wrist, twisting it until the bone snapped. Marco screamed, dropping the gun. Julian drove his knee into the traitor’s chest, sending him crashing through the glass railing of the balcony.
