Chapter 5 - The Retaliation

I had managed to press the emergency panic button hidden under Julian's nightstand.

The piercing alarm was deafening, flashing red strobe lights throughout the mansion.

The two hitmen panicked, abandoning their mission and sprinting back down the stairs.

They barely made it to the garden before Arthur's private security team tackled them to the ground.

Arthur burst into the hallway holding a shotgun, looking like a terrifying action hero.

He found me crawling out from under Julian's bed, shaking like a leaf.

“Where is Julian?” he roared, fear consuming his face.

“Wine cellar,” I gasped, pointing to the floor.

Arthur dropped the gun and pulled me into a crushing hug.

We ran to the basement and found Julian perfectly safe behind the reinforced steel door.

The police arrived minutes later to drag the two hitmen away.

But Arthur was absolutely done waiting for the legal system to do its job.

He gathered his security chief and his lead corporate lawyer in the dining room.

“The Sinclair family just tried to assassinate my children,” Arthur said, his voice deadly and cold.

He called us his children. Both of us.

“I don't just want Victoria in a prison cell anymore.”

“I want the entire Sinclair empire burned to the ground by sunrise.”

Over the next twelve hours, Arthur used his billions to systematically destroy her family.

He bought out their largest shipping contracts and fired their boards of directors.

He leaked evidence of their offshore tax evasion to the federal authorities.

By the time the morning news aired, the Sinclair family was completely bankrupt.
