Chapter 3 - The Interrogation

The next morning, the reality of what happened hit the billionaire empire like a hurricane.

Arthur spent the entire morning in his study, dealing with the fallout of the arrest.

Victoria was not just a nanny; she was the heiress to the Sinclair shipping fortune.

Her family had sent an army of high-priced lawyers to the police station.

They were trying to twist the story to save their precious daughter from prison.

They claimed Julian had wandered off on his own, and Victoria was frantically searching for him.

They even dared to suggest that I, a homeless street rat, had tried to kidnap him for ransom.

When Arthur heard that, he threw a crystal whiskey glass against the wall, shattering it into a thousand pieces.

I was standing in the hallway, peeking through the cracked door.

Arthur saw me and immediately took a deep breath, calming himself down.

“Come in, Maya,” he said, gesturing to a massive leather chair.

I climbed into the chair, pulling my knees to my chest.

“Are they going to put her in jail?” I asked quietly.

Arthur rubbed his temples, looking exhausted but fiercely determined.

“They are trying to buy her freedom, Maya.”

“Her lawyers want to question you to prove you are a liar.”

My stomach dropped, and the old instinct to run flooded my veins.

“If I talk to the police, they will put me back in the foster system,” I panicked.

Arthur knelt in front of the chair, looking me directly in the eyes.

“I have already hired the best custody lawyers in the country.”

“I filed emergency guardianship papers for you this morning.”

“You belong to this family now, and no one will ever take you away.”

A single tear rolled down my cheek, and I threw my arms around his neck.

I had lost my father years ago, but in that moment, I felt like I had finally found a new one.
