Chapter 7 - The Desperate Ploy

Three weeks later.

I was finally discharged from the hospital, bringing Leo and Maya home to a new, heavily guarded penthouse apartment Evelyn had secured for me using Julian’s seized funds.

Julian was a cornered rat, and cornered rats do desperate things.

He breached the restraining order.

It was raining heavily when the security buzzer rang. My private guard answered it, only to find Julian standing in the lobby, drenched, looking like a maniac.

"Elena! I know you're up there! Please!" his voice echoed over the intercom. "I have nothing! My firm fired me! Mom is living in a motel!"

I stood by the monitor, holding Leo against my chest, watching my soon-to-be ex-husband unravel.

"Call the police," I told my security guard calmly.

I watched on the camera as the NYPD arrived. Julian tried to fight them, screaming my name, accusing me of ruining his life. He was violently tackled to the marble floor of the lobby, handcuffed, and dragged into the back of a squad car.

The image of him pressed against the wet pavement, stripped of his custom suits and his arrogant smirk, was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
