Chapter 5 - The Legal Assassin

I didn't wait for tomorrow.
The moment they left, I called Evelyn Vance—a powerhouse divorce attorney known in Manhattan as "The Widow-Maker." She wasn't cheap, but I had secretly transferred a massive chunk of my own inheritance into a private account years ago, just in case Julian ever tried to control me.
Evelyn arrived at the hospital within two hours, carrying a sleek briefcase and a predatory smile.
"I listened to the audio file you sent me," Evelyn said, pulling up a chair. "It's pure gold. But we aren't just going for full custody and a divorce. We are going to dismantle his entire life."
"He threatened my kids, Evelyn. I want him ruined."
"Oh, he's going to be," she promised, opening her laptop. "While you were recovering, I did some digging. Julian has been incredibly sloppy. You know that 'prenup' he mentioned?"
"Yes?"
"It’s toilet paper," Evelyn smirked. "He hid over four million dollars in offshore shell companies under his mother’s name to avoid declaring it as marital property. Not only does that void the prenup under state law, but it's also federal tax evasion. And I have the receipts."
My jaw dropped. He wasn't just abusive; he was a criminal.

"What about Beatrice?" I asked, a wicked thrill running down my spine.
"Beatrice is a co-conspirator. The IRS is going to seize that beautiful house they love so much," Evelyn noted. "We file tomorrow morning. Ex parte orders for sole custody, asset freezing, and a restraining order based on his recorded threats. By noon tomorrow, Julian Vance will be homeless, broke, and unemployable."
