Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of Vance

It happened while Julian was in a board meeting at his prestigious wealth management firm.
According to the deposition later, Julian was in the middle of a PowerPoint presentation when federal marshals, accompanied by local police, entered the glass-walled conference room.
In front of the CEO, the partners, and Julian’s biggest clients, he was handed a stack of papers thicker than a phone book.
"Julian Vance, you are being served with a restraining order, divorce proceedings, and a federal subpoena for tax fraud," the marshal announced loudly.
Julian’s face went the color of ash. "This is a mistake! My wife is just angry—"
"Your assets have been frozen by federal order, Mr. Vance," the marshal continued. "Please hand over your company phone and laptop."
At that exact moment, across town, Beatrice was hosting her weekly high-society brunch at her sprawling estate.
Evelyn had coordinated the strikes perfectly. The IRS agents knocked on Beatrice's door, flanked by moving trucks. Beatrice shrieked, clutching her pearls as agents began cataloging her art collection and designer handbags—the very things she had abandoned me for.
"You can't do this! Do you know who I am?!" Beatrice screamed at the lead agent.

"We know exactly who you are, ma'am," the agent replied coldly. "You're a tax cheat. Step away from the Mercedes, it's being impounded."
By sunset, Julian’s credit cards were declining. He couldn't even pay for a cab ride to his mother’s house, only to find her sitting on the curb with two suitcases, screaming at the repo men.
