Julian guided her into the sunlit breakfast conservatory.

“Eleanor’s family company relies heavily on Sterling Industries,” Julian explained.

“By breaking the engagement, I started a corporate war.”

Clara looked at her coffee, feeling incredibly guilty.

“I never meant to ruin your life.”

Julian laughed loudly, a genuine sound that warmed the room.

“You saved my life, twice now.”

He slid a heavy file folder across the glass table.

“I want you to sign a contract to be my fake fiancée.”

Clara nearly choked on her drink.

“You want me to pretend to marry you?”

“For six months, yes,” he nodded.

“It will secure your grandfather’s treatments, and it will permanently crush Eleanor’s hopes of returning.”
