Chapter 6 - The Gilded Cage

By noon, Elara had been examined by Cassian’s private physician, stitched up, and given a hot shower. She stood in one of the guest bedrooms of the penthouse, wrapped in an oversized cashmere sweater and soft leggings provided by Cassian’s staff.
The room was larger than her entire apartment. It was a gilded cage, beautiful but utterly suffocating.
There was a soft knock on the door, and Cassian entered. He was holding a sleek silver laptop and a stack of encrypted hard drives.
"The medical bills for your sister have been paid through the end of the year," Cassian said, setting the laptop on the glass desk. "A private nurse has been dispatched to her apartment."
Elara’s breath hitched. A heavy, crushing weight lifted off her chest for the first time in twelve months. "Thank you," she whispered.
"Don't thank me yet. You have a job to do." Cassian pulled up a chair next to the desk. "These are the raw server logs from the Obsidian Lounge. Silas thinks he wiped the digital footprint of the Panama accounts, but if you saw the physical printouts, you know the sequence numbers."

Elara sat down, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. As she began to type, Cassian stood close behind her. She could feel the heat radiating from him, a sharp contrast to the freezing nightmare of the previous night.
"I'll find him," she promised, her eyes scanning the green code reflecting on the screen. "I'm going to ruin him."
