Chapter 11 - The Shift in the Tide

Elara stumbled through the dark service corridor, the sound of gunfire echoing behind her. She pushed through the swinging kitchen doors, her emerald gown catching on a prep table.
She reached the stairwell, her lungs burning, and burst through the doors to the underground parking garage. Marcus, Cassian’s loyal driver, was waiting by the armored SUV, engine roaring.
"Get in!" Marcus yelled.
But as Elara grabbed the door handle, a heavy hand clamped down on her shoulder, spinning her around. It was Gideon.
"Going somewhere, sweetheart?" Gideon sneered, raising his weapon.
Elara didn't freeze. The helpless, freezing girl from the railyard was dead. With a surge of adrenaline, she grabbed a heavy, steel fire extinguisher from the wall beside her and swung it with all her might. The red cylinder collided sickeningly with Gideon’s skull. He crumpled to the concrete without a sound.
Marcus stared at her in shock.
"Don't just stand there!" Elara shouted, tossing the extinguisher aside. "Get the weapons from the trunk. We are going back upstairs!"
